Undergraduate students and salaried staff may view these restricted titles in Media viewing carrels only.

Faculty, professional staff, and graduate students may check out restricted titles for instructional and research use.

Searching Media on DELCAT
All videos are searchable on DELCAT. Since loan periods and availability vary depending on user category and booking status, when reading the DELCAT record for a particular title please note:

Under Location all media titles are listed as Limited Circulation. The Location note for Restricted titles will read Restricted Loan. See above for information about the circulation of Restricted Loan items. The Location note for non-restricted titles will be Media Loan. Titles listed as Media Loan may be checked out at the Instructional Media Collection Department service desk by University of Delaware faculty, students, and staff with a valid University of Delaware ID card.
Media Reserves
Videos and films with a reserve designation in the Location line in the DELCAT record are those titles within the Instructional Media Collection which have been requested by an instructor who wishes that the video or film be made available within the Library for a specific assignment during a given week. A video that is part of the Instructional Media Collection may be placed on reserve in Instructional Media for a maximum of seven days. These videos are available to all borrowers for 4-hour use only in the Instructional Media Collection Department viewing carrels. To place a reserve request, please call 831-1475.

Scheduling

Films and videos may be scheduled by faculty, professional staff, and graduate students responsible for teaching a regularly scheduled class.

To insure the availability of videos and films for classroom showings, media should be scheduled well in advance. It is recommended that videos listed in any course syllabus be scheduled prior to the beginning of the semester in which they are being used.

Scheduling requests for films and videos need to be received by the Instructional Media Collection Department at least seven days prior to the first scheduled use or show date. Materials needed within seven days of the use date can be checked out at the Instructional Media Collection department service desk on a walk in basis without scheduling.

Videos and films can be scheduled: (a) for pick-up from the Instructional Media Collection Department or (b) for delivery to designated campus delivery sites. Media items can not be delivered to individual classrooms or faculty/staff offices.

Videos and films may be scheduled online using the Media Scheduling Request form or by submitting a paper form (PDF) in person, by fax, or via campus mail. Media scheduling requests will not be accepted by telephone.

Videos and films may not be scheduled for an entire semester.

Extension of bookings: Videos and films that have been scheduled for specific use dates cannot be extended online. To extend media materials already scheduled, please call (302) 831-8419 during Instructional Media Collection Department office hours: 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Delivery of Scheduled Media

Videos and films may be scheduled for delivery to designated campus delivery sites. Deliveries will not be made to individual faculty offices, projection facilities, or to residence halls.

Faculty who teach at Arsht Hall and other University of Delaware sites may request that videos and films be delivered to these locations.

When media materials are scheduled for delivery to a designated campus office, those materials may be returned either:

In person during regular department hours to the Instructional Media Collection Department Service Desk, or

By UD Campus Mail to:

Instructional Media Collection Department
Morris Library
Newark, DE 19717

Media materials scheduled for delivery will include a return address label inside the video case. When returning the item by Campus Mail, simply place the video (in its case) in an Interdepartmental delivery envelope with the mailing label affixed to the envelope. Please do not put more than one item in an envelope as this may cause damage or loss to the item(s) in transit. Please make sure the envelope is clasped shut and / or securely sealed.

Fines

Overdue fines for films / videos will be $5 per day, per item with a maximum of $50 per item. Fines for hourly use will be $1 per hour, per item up to a maximum of $50. Fees and fines are assessed consistently and are not waived.

Borrowers will be charged the cost of a replacement copy of a lost or damaged film or video plus processing costs. The minimum replacement charge will be $75 per item.

Overdue items which are recalled must be returned within 3 days of notice. If a recalled item is not returned by the recall due date, borrowing privileges are suspended until the item is returned.

Borrowers are individually responsible for keeping track of due dates and for returning or renewing library materials by the date due. Overdue fines will not be waived on the basis of a failure to receive an overdue notice. Recalled items are due on the recall due date. Borrowing privileges are suspended if ten or more items are overdue or if a recalled item is not returned by the recall due date.

Fees are payable at Room 116, Student Services Building, 30 Lovett Avenue. No money is collected at the Instructional Media Collection Department. If a billed item is returned undamaged, the replacement fee is waived. Processing fees are not waived, since the library has already incurred the cost of processing overdue and billing notices.
