Library Student Assistant Scholarship

The UDLAPS Library Student Assistant Scholarship is intended to reward outstanding student service at the University of Delaware Library and make a positive contribution to the profession of librarianship by encouraging student assistants to pursue careers as library and information professionals. Because student employees are so essential to the daily operations and services of the Library, the scholarship program is intended to be one means of recognition. In addition, student employment is a valuable introduction to the field of Library service. The scholarship program offers student assistants who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to librarianship support in pursuit of graduate library education.

Eligibility to Apply
Applicants must be current or former student assistants who have worked at the University of Delaware Library at least one semester (a minimum of 150 hours). Applicants must have applied for admission to a formal program of library and information studies leading to a master's degree. The recipient must enter an ALA-accredited master's degree program. Applicants must provide documentation of a 3.0 GPA or better at the University of Delaware.

Applications
Applicants will be required to submit the following: 1) A completed application form; 2) a letter stating reasons for interest in becoming a professional librarian; 3) two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a University of Delaware Library staff member addressing current or previous experience as a University of Delaware Library student assistant; 4) a letter showing proof of application or acceptance to an ALA-accredited graduate library education program; and 5) evidence of an undergraduate 3.0 GPA or better.

The application deadline is March 2, 2009.

Awards
One scholarship of $750 is available annually. The recipient of the award must provide proof of acceptance to an ALA-accredited graduate library education program. If there are no qualified applicants, no award will be given.
