    </processinfo> <bioghist encodinganalog="545"> <head>Biographical Notes</head> <bioghist><head>Jayne Mangino</head><p><note><p>New York City photographer Jayne Mangino was born on April 16, 1950.</p></note></p><p>A resident of Long Island City, New York, Jayne Mangino was a passionate photographer, even while battling cancer over a twenty-three year period, until her death on March 20, 2009.  Her life work was honored with a memorial exhibition on May 17, 2009, at Art-O-Mat Gallery, Long Island City, in New York.</p><p></p></bioghist> <bioghist> <head>George Papageorge</head> <p><note><p>American photographer George Papageorge was born on August 1, 1940, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.</p></note></p><p>In 1979, Papageorge was named the Walker Evans Professor of Photography at the School of Art, Yale University, where he continues to teach.  His most recent book, <title>Core Curriculum: Writings on Photography</title>, was published by Aperture in 2011. <head>Scope and Content Note</head> <p><note><p>This small collection of three items documents New York photographer Jayne Mangino's passion for photography.</p></note></p><p>The first item is a typescript photocopy  of Tod Papageorge's essay, "Beginning with Snapshots," which belonged to Jayne Mangino. First published in a 1974 issue of <title>Aperture</title> (volume 19, issue 1) which focused on snapshots,  this essay later appeared as a chapter in Papageorge's book, <title>Core Curriculum: Writings on Photography</title> (2011).</p> <p>The other two items in the collection are related to a memorial exhibition of Jayne Mangino's photography, including a brochure, <title>Memorial for Jayne Mangino: a photography exhibition</title>,   and a one-page list of the photographs featured in the exhibition. The memorial exhibition was held at the Art-O-Mat Gallery, Long Island City, in New York, on May 17, 2009. The brochure includes a remembrance by Margaret D. Stetz, titled "The Art of Jayne Mangino (1950-2009)."</p></scopecontent>
