    </processinfo> <bioghist encodinganalog="545"> <head>Biographical Note</head> <p><note><p>American poet and educator Paul Ramsey wrote poems, short stories, essays, book reviews and several novels.</p></note></p><p>Born November 26, 1924, in Atlanta, Georgia, Paul Ramsey taught English at a number of universities, including the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Elmira College, University of the Pacific, Raymond College, University of the South,  and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.</p><p>In the late 1960s,   Ramsey was a poet-in-residence at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and director of Tennessee Poetry Circuit. In addition, Paul Ramsey wrote an annual chronicle of poetry for the <title>Sewanee Review</title>and edited  <title>Factotum</title>from 1948 to 1949.</p><p>His first book of poetry was <title>In an Ordinary Place</title>,  published by the North Carolina State University Press in 1965.</p><p>Paul Ramsey died September 27, 1994, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.</p><p><bibref>"Paul Ramsey."
