Notes</head> <p><note><p>Anne Wheeler Young was a Philadelphia resident with an interest in the sensational news events of the first half of the 20th century.</p></note></p><p>Young was born on December 22, 1902, and raised in
Massachusetts. During the 1930s and 1940s, she resided in the suburbs of
Philadelphia and maintained an avid interest in current events. Anne Wheeler
Young's son, William Young, was a graduate of Eddystone High School and attended the Philadelphia Conservancy to pursue a musical career. After obtaining his degree from the Conservancy, he served in the U.S. Navy and obtained a B.S. in Education from Temple University in 1958. Mr. Young taught vocal and instrumental music at several schools in Wilmington, Delaware: Howard High School, Wilmington High School, Delcastle Tech High School, The Tatnall School, and Tower Hill School. Mr. Young also obtained a MEd in music from West Chester University and was passionately active in
the Wilmington music community.</p><p> <bibref>William Wheeler Young obituary. <title>News Journal</title>, June 5, 2010.</bibref> </p> </bioghist> <scopecontent encodinganalog="520">

20th-century American scrapbooks, periodical issues, and loose clippings
are organized into four series. The scrapbooks in Series I and II were assembled
by Anne Wheeler Young. Series I consists of scrapbooks 1 through 5, which
document the arrest of Bruno Richard Hauptmann, a German-born American
carpenter, for the abduction and murder of Charles A. Lindbergh, Jr., in 1934.
The scrapbooks contain news clippings from Philadelphia-area newspapers
chronicling Hauptmann’s arrest, trial, and subsequent execution. </p><p>Series
II documents British royalty, particularly King Edward VII. Scrapbooks 6
through 8 record Edward’s ascension to the throne following the death of his
father, King George V, Edward’s abdication of the throne, and his marriage to
Mrs. Wallis Warfield Simpson. </p><p>Series III consists of a scrapbook
complied by Mrs. Young’s son, William Young, for an eighth-grade American history
assignment in 1944. Finally, Series IV includes periodical issues collected by
Anne Wheeler Young related to the ascension of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne
in 1952.</p> </scopecontent> <arrangement encodinganalog="351"> <head>Arrangement</head>
