Biographical Note

Marjorie J. Tilghman was graduated from the University of Delaware in 1928, and went on to do graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania in 1929-1930. She taught at Ridley Park and later was a member of the faculty and chairman of the history department of the Tatnall School in Wilmington, Delaware. She was married to Francis H. Squire, and after his death she married the late Cornelius A. Tilghman. She was a longtime resident of Newark, Delaware, and the daughter of Everett C. and Louise Staton Johnson.


Scope and Content Note

The Marjorie J. Tilghman Papers collection consists of 5.6 linear feet of material dating from 1928 to 1994. The collection consists of a variety of materials relating to Ms. Tilghman and her late husbands, including manuscripts, notebooks, correspondence, clippings, research files, certificates, photographs, programs, speeches, lecture notes, essays, articles, books, maps, and stories.
