Biographical Note

 

Ceil Smith Thayer was a graduate of the Fawcett School of the Industrial Arts and a postgraduate student at the New York School of Fine and Applied Arts. She held various production positions in advertising agencies and department stores in New York City from 1922-1928. After that, she held positions involving art in the corporate and publishing worlds. Later, Thayer collected boxes of material relating to watermarks toward her research on a book on the subject.


Scope and Content Note

The Ceil Smith Thayer Papermaking and Watermark Collection consist of 7 linear feet of material dating from 1950 to 1980. The collection consists of Thayer's research materials on Papermaking and Watermarks, and includes: research notebooks, slides, research files, and correspondence.
