Biographical Note

Jack Sturgell, former coordinator of cultural programs at the University of Delaware, served in several roles, including coordinator of the Perkins Student Center, director of the UD Bacchus Theater, dean of students, and director of cultural programs for student life. Mr. Sturgell came to the University of Delaware in 1963 from the College of William and Mary. In 1980, he received the highest award from the Association of College Unions-International for quality and excellence in college union programming and student activities administration.


Scope and Content Note

The Jack Sturgell Papers collection consists of approximately 7 linear feet of material dating from 1900-1988. The collection can be divided into three portions. The Bacchus files include production notes, photographs, publicity and reviews related to performances at the student center theater. The Playbills portion consists of programs and playbills from musical and dramatic productions in the Newark and Wilmington area, as well as several performances in New York and Philadelphia. The Newark and Wilmington programs are from University productions, Delaware Theatre Company, and the Playhouse. The sheet music portion is organized by lyricists, composers, and subjects.
