Introductory Note
George William “Gilbert” Patten (Oct. 25, 1866 – Jan. 16, 1945) developed the fictional hero “Frank Merriwell” for Street and Smith, the New York-based publishers of dime novels and juvenile pulp fiction, in 1896. Under the pseudonym Burt L. Standish, he authored more than 800 Merriwell stories for Tip Top Weekly, a Street and Smith magazine, from 1896 – 1913. Street and Smith later published these stories as “dime novels,” at least some of which were not even written by Patten, although Standish is given credit. The Katrina Canterbury collection consists entirely of those dime novels issued in the Burt L. Standish Frank Merriwell Library series.
The collection is arranged and housed in order according to publisher’s serial number. Individual titles are cataloged in DELCAT. Search "author = Canterbury, Katrina" to retrieve a collection-level record, or "author = Standish, Burt L." to retrieve a list of titles by this author.
