Description:
A friend of the Liebermans, O. Alfred Dickman was advertising production manager for The New York Herald Tribune. He was a member of the “Rudge Alumni” (publisher - William Edwin Rudge, Mount Vernon, NY) which included noted typographers Peter Beilenson and James Hendrickson. An educator, printer, and critic, Dickman was affiliated with the Condé Nast Press and the Bartlett-Orr Press. He was the president of the Type Directors Club and executive member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts. He retired from the Tribune in 1962.
The material in this series reflects several aspects of Dickman's life, particularly his work at and retirement from The New York Herald Tribune, and his involvement in such print-related organizations as the Typophiles and the Type Directors Club. Other material which belonged to Dickman is found throughout the Lieberman papers, particularly the samples and catalogs of type specimens in Series VII. It is possible that Dickman may have given Lieberman portions of his papers or that they were bequeathed to Lieberman after Dickman's death.
