Robert Hichens was a prolific English writer who issued more than seventy books during a career that extended for more than fifty years. Hichens was born in Speldhurst, England, in November 14, 1864 and by his mid-teens Hichens had already published his first novel, The Coastguard's Secret.In addition to writing novels, stories, and the lyrics for music, Hichens was a music critic for London World in late 1890s. Hichens's work is represented in anthologies and he was a contributor to periodicals, including European Mail, London Evening Standard, and Pall Mall. He died on July 20, 1950 in Zurich, Switzerland.

One letter handwritten by Robert Hichens to Mrs. Fitzgerald Mann, dated October 29, 1911. The letter was written while Hichens was aboard the SS Celtic and regards the characters in his book, The Garden of Allah.
