Anglo-Irish writer Lord Dunsany (Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, Baron, 1878–1957), is best known for composing fantasy works that inspired authors such as J. R. R. Tolkien. Dunsany’s first play was performed at the Abbey Theatre and his stage shows were highly regarded in England and America as well. Dunsany's other literary contributions include short stories and poetry. Although he is considered a writer of the Irish Literary Renaissance and knew the main figures of the movement, Dunsany was a British subject who associated primarily with the British aristocracy.
