Frederick G. Strong was a crewman on the schooner Lena for the shipping voyage from Boston, Massachusetts, to The Bay of Islands, Newfoundland, from November 12, 1865, to June 9, 1866. The captain of the vessel was Charles R. Medanal. The ship ran aground on a sandbar near Wood Island, Maine, on June 8, 1866. The ship was condemned and sold the next day for $360. The cargo was sold for $50.
The author records that the schooners Hanner and Sirocco were lost on Cape St. George and all hands perished.

This volume documents the merchant voyage of the schooner Lena on the voyage from Boston, Massachusetts, to The Bay of Islands, Newfoundland, from November 12, 1865, to June 9, 1866. It contains navigational data, weather reports, and other ships spotted.
The journal is one bound volume, circa 68 pages. The author recorded entries on 38 of the pages. The existing entries were recorded in ink. The sea journal was printed with a navigational, marine-based chart on each page, although the author did not provide this level of detail for each entry.
