Biographical Note

 Seth C. Brace was a member of the faculty of Newark College, which later became the University of Delaware. He taught mathematics and rhetoric from 1842 until 1844.

Scope and Content Note

 The collection consists of seven pencil sketches of Newark, Delaware. The eighth piece in the collection is a reproduction of a watercolor sketch entitled "View in Newark (Del.) from the high ground on the N. side," the original of which is held in the University of Delaware Archives. Mariam Hill of Orange, Virginia, a descendant of Brace, gave the sketches to P.S. du Pont in 1926 who then gave them to the University of Delaware.
