Series V. Videocassette recordings related to John DePol, 1930-1997
Extent: 1 linear ft.
Contents: videocassette recordings, DVD-R, and notes
Arrangement: Grouped by contents, for example interviews and exhibition recordings
Description:
The
audiovisual recordings in this series include interviews, such as one conducted
with John DePol by Michael Tarachow,
a discussion with DePol at The Print Club of Albany,
and a recording of the festivities surrounding the presentation of his
festschrift in 1994. Also among the
recordings are documentation of exhibitions of DePol’s
work, DePol’s lecture on John Fass,
William Clarkin’s lecture regarding John DePol, and home videos of gatherings at the home of John
and Thelma DePol.
Also among the recordings are videocassettes sent to DePol,
including one documenting wood engraver, Timothy Cole. The series also includes a DVD-R copy of a 1985 interview of DePol conducted by Don Knoepfler and videotaped by Eugene Brancolini.
These recording are fine records of events celebrating DePol’s accomplishments as well as documenting DePol at work, as in the Tarachow interviews, during which DePol actually demonstrates engraving a woodblock. As with the proofs of his engravings, some of the videocassettes bear extensive notes on the containers commenting on the contents of the recording.
The
videocassette recordings have been removed to the Media Section of the
Manuscript Collection.
