Contain Coleman's initial ideas, outlines, notes, and character sketches for her
novel Tygon. Begun in October 1933 in London, the notebook also provides a
daily accounting of her writing in 1935-1936 (in New York, Hartford, and
London). The first page bears the notation "I wish, in the event of my death, this
notebook to be given to Antonia White. Emily Coleman....March 26, 1936."
Also includes three clippings, a small note regarding John Holms, a telegram from
Peter Hoare, and several poems. The poems are "Proverbs of Sainthood and
Imagination," "The New-Let Grave" (with correction by Holms), "The Black
Poplar," and three untitled poems.
