Biographical Note

Frederick A. Blank retired from a business career in New York City to Wilmington, Delaware, in 1949. He served in the army during World War I, then returned home to his previous career as an export manager. In 1926, he worked in the wall-industry, and invented a washable, non-fading wall-covering. In 1940, he was appointed to the American and Foreign Panel of Arbitrators in the U.S. by the American Arbitration Association of New York. He also taught institutional decoration at Cornell University (1945) and joined the Executive Association of Greater New York (1945), becoming the vice president in 1948.

Scope and Content Note

The Frederick Blank Papers consists of 2.6 linear feet of material dating from 1807-1991. The collection focuses largely on subjects related to Blank's military service and to the wall-covering business. It includes clippings, books, court records, correspondence, membership cards, articles, booklets, tear sheets, memoranda, pamphlets, brass buttons, photographs, metal plates, fabric sample books, class notes, tests, brochures, business cards, wall hanging sample books, advertisements, dust jackets, maps, periodicals, and paintings. Of particular note is a framed work of art by Mochi depicting a cock fight.
