Ernest Hemingway In His Time

To Have and Have Not

To Have and Have Not was pieced together from two earlier short stories and written between Hemingway's visits to Spain during the Civil War. The novel was set in Key West, where Hemingway made his home for some years, and was made into a 1945 film starring Bogart and Bacall.

How Little We Know

Sheet music for a song from the 1945 Warner Bros. film of Hemingway's To Have and Have Not. The film was directed by Howard Hawks and starred Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. William Faulkner co-authored the screenplay and the composer Hoagy Carmichael was cast in a minor role in the film.

This is one of a series of pocket-size books which were published for free distribution to members of the American armed services. Each book was printed in an edition of 57,000 copies, yet they are quite scarce today because of their fragility.
