Fine Printing/The Art of Printing
The University of Delaware Library has long collected materials related to the history of printing (such as type specimens, as noted elsewhere in the exhibition), and continues to consistently acquire modern examples of fine press books and books related to papermaking, printing, and the like. With the establishment on campus of Raven Press, a letterpress print shop in the Department of Art, there has been a major upswing in the demonstration and use of these materials by undergraduate students. Multiple class sessions every semester are devoted to the presentation of these books by Special Collections librarians to students, many of whom are working on their own projects, which are thus informed by their exposure to the major works of past and present printers and technical manuals.
