PICTURING DELAWARE:
NEWARK: TOWN AND GOWN
Kevin Fleming. The University of Delaware photographed by Kevin Fleming. Louisville: Harmony House, c1988. Adele Smith. "Pictures of Newark, Delaware. Town, Campus, Library." 1942. This fascinating scrapbook contains snapshots of the town and campus taken between 1936 and 1942. Of particular interest are the many photos of Memorial Hall, then the University Library, taken during a major renovation. Adele Smith, the photographer, remains a mystery. She is not listed as a student or faculty member at the University of Delaware during that time, nor can she be found in Newark directories for the early nineteen-forties. Wilbur T. Wilson, 1856-1942. Wilbur T. Wilson was a prominent Newark, Delaware, engineer and surveyor
whose collection of nearly five hundred hand-drawn maps of Newark and
vicinity document the area during the last decades of the nineteenth century
and the first decades of the twentieth century.
