Checking Out Reserve Materials

Users must present a valid University of Delaware ID card or borrower card to check out Reserve material. Users may check out up to two items at one time, and date due slips indicate when each item needs to be returned. Loan periods are determined by the instructor who has placed the material on Reserve. All Reserve material must be returned to the Reserve Room book drop: returning Reserve material to any other library service desk will delay check-in of the material and may result in overdue fines.

Users may renew most Reserve items if they are not finished with them at the end of the loan period that appears on the date due slip. In order to renew Reserve material, users need to present both a valid University of Delaware ID card or borrower card and the Reserve material at the Reserve service desk. Certain items cannot be renewed because they are in very high demand; please check with Reserve Room staff to confirm the renewal status of specific items. Reserve material cannot be renewed by telephone or through "Books I Have Checked Out."

Periodicals and personal copy materials with a two hour loan period need to be used in the Morris Library and may not be taken beyond the exit gate.

Overdue Fines for Reserve Materials

Reserve material is in high demand because it enables students to meet course requirements. Overdue fines are charged to encourage appropriate use of these resources.

If Reserve material is not returned promptly, an overdue fine is charged:

Fines
Hourly Loans$1.00 per hour to a maximum of $20.00
Daily Loans$3.00 per day to a maximum of $20.00

Fees are payable at Room 116, Student Services Building, 30 Lovett Avenue. No money is collected at the Reserve Desk. Users will be billed for replacement costs if a Reserve item is not returned with 15 days of its due date. If a billed item is returned undamaged, the replacement fee is waived. Processing fees are not waived, since the library has already incurred the cost of processing. Borrowers will be billed for damaged library materials. This fee is applied towards repair or, if necessary, replacement of the damaged item.

Library Material Replacement Costs
Minimum replacement Fee (Refundable if the item is promptly returned.)$60.00
Non-refundable Invoice Processing Fee$10.00
Non-refundable Overdue Fine$20.00
Total Minimum Replacement charge$90.00

Use of the Reserve Room

Seating and Study Areas:

The Reserve Room is designed to be a quiet area conducive to study and research. Library users are asked to assist in maintaining the Reserve Room as a quiet area by refraining from loud conversations that are disruptive to others using the room. University of Delaware students who need to engage in discussions related to group projects can use group study rooms located on each floor of the Morris Library.

University of Delaware Network Access:

Electrical outlets and wired network connections for laptop computers are available in the study carrels and next to some of the larger tables in the Reserve Room. Wireless network access is also available in the Reserve Room for University of Delaware students, faculty, and staff. For information about wireless networking at the University of Delaware, including system requirements, setup, and usage instructions, visit the UnpluggeD: Wireless Networking at the University of Delaware Web site.

Photocopiers in the Reserve Room:

There are seven self-service photocopiers in the Reserve Room. Six of the photocopiers have document feeders and can create two-sided copies for added convenience. One of the photocopiers is designed for copying from books and other bound materials. These photocopiers can reduce and enlarge images and have a variety of paper sizes available.

Price Information:

$.10 per single-sided copy using FLEX or a library copy card.
$.15 per single-sided copy using cash

Payment Options:

Two of the document feeder copiers accept FLEX only
Three of the document feeder copiers accept library copy cards only
One of the document feeder copiers accepts library copy cards and cash
The book-edge copier accepts FLEX only

There are two library copy card dispensers in the Reserve Room that enable users to purchase and add value to library copy cards.

Office supplies such as paper clips, staplers, rubber bands, and a three-hole punch are located on a table in the copier area.

Routine service issues with the photocopiers such as paper jams and document feeder problems can be reported to the Reserve Room service desk. Users need to contact Student Multimedia Design Center on the lower level to resolve problems with FLEX card readers, library copy card readers, and library copy card dispensers. Additional copy card dispensers and photocopiers are located throughout the library.

Public Events in the Reserve Room:

Several times a year there may be public events scheduled to take place in the Reserve Room. During these events, borrowers may continue to check out Reserve materials at the service desk but the use of photocopiers, Electronic Reserve printing, and study area seating are not available.
