What is Electronic Document Delivery?
Articles requested through Interlibrary Loan by University of Delaware students, faculty, and staff are being provided in PDF format for pickup via your University of Delaware e-mail account.
How does Electronic Document Delivery work?
Interlibrary loan uses the UD Dropbox Service to provide secure delivery and storage of electronic files. Individuals who request articles through Interlibrary Loan will be notified at their University of Delaware e-mail address when their requests arrive. The subject line of the e-mail is "[UD Dropbox Service] Interlibrary Loan has dropped-off a file for you!" and the sender of the e-mail is "UD Dropbox Service."
To view your document:
Please note: All electronic documents provided by Interlibrary Loan are named ".pdf." If you plan to save the file to your computer, re-name the file so that it will be easier for you to identify and will not be overwritten by future downloads of electronic documents from Interlibrary Loan.
These articles can be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If you have several articles provided by Interlibrary Loan and wish to review them, log in to the UD Dropbox Service using your UDel NetID and password, then click on "Drop-offs for Me" to display your list of files. To view a specific file, click on the Claim ID code, and then click on the file name or icon to open the file or save it to disk. Files are retained for 14 days.
Do I have to check my e-mail account to access my articles?
Yes. You will receive an e-mail notification each time you receive a new article from Interlibrary Loan.
I don't use a udel.edu e-mail address, or I've never set it up. Can't you just send it to my alternate e-mail address?
No. Your @udel.edu e-mail address is an official communication channel for the University (departments, faculty, and staff) and its students, as well as between the University departments and employees. Members of the University community are responsible for receiving and reading any official communication sent to his or her @udel.edu account.
If you need help setting up your @udel.edu account, please visit the University of Delaware Network Page. E-mail passwords may also be reset from here.
How many articles can I request?
There is no limit on the number of articles you can request.
How long are my articles available?
Articles available through Electronic Document Delivery will be available for 14 days. Please remember that the documents in your account will be deleted 14 days after you are notified. This means that the document will be removed 14 days after an e-mail notification is sent to you, not 14 days after you first view the document.
Why are some of the pages in my articles upside-down or sideways?
When lending libraries copy journal articles using a scanner, they sometimes scan some of the pages upside-down. If the journal is small enough so that two pages can fit onto one 8.5" x 11" page, the article may be scanned in "sideways."
If you are trying to read an article that has upside-down or sideways pages, you can print the article and re-organize the pages. You can also read the article in Adobe Reader using version 4.05 or higher. This version has buttons on the toolbar which allow you to rotate the pages on the screen.
Some of the pages in my article are blank, included twice or in the wrong order.
If there are detailed illustrations in your article, the lending library will usually scan those pages twice; once for the text, and once with a special setting to make the illustrations clear. Also, lending libraries sometimes make mistakes when scanning articles, and some pages may be included twice or located in the wrong place, such as at the end of the article.
Some of the pages in my article are missing or illegible.
Please check through the document to make sure that all of the pages are included. Some pages may be included out of order, or at the end of the article. If there are missing or illegible pages, please contact the Interlibrary Loan office during regular office hours at (302) 831-2236 with the name of the article so that we can re-order the missing or illegible pages. If you need to contact the Interlibrary Loan office during evenings, weekends, or holidays, please send an e-mail to .
My document displays as a blank white page when I try to open it from my browser.
This results from certain settings in Adobe Reader. If you are able to modify the setting in Adobe Reader on your computer, please try the following:
It is also useful to clear your temporary files before trying to access the documents again. This can be done in your browser options or settings.
When I load a document in Adobe Reader, an error message displays.
Please contact the Interlibrary Loan office at (302) 831-2236 or via e-mail at with the text of the error message and the title of the article. We would like to know of any errors you encounter while using the electronic document delivery service.
I'm having trouble printing my document. What can I do?
Save the file to your hard drive, then print the article using the printer icon in the upper left of the document screen.
There is an invoice or bill included in my document. What should I do with it?
