ESRI Data Available on the
Digital Mapping Station
The data that comes with the ESRI ArcView software is sufficient for most users to make the map they need. Although the data is updated almost yearly, we have kept the past versions available on the Digital Mapping Station as well. The following describes the ESRI Data & Maps CD-ROMs/DVD-ROMs that are loaded and available for Digital Mapping Station users. Please remember that this should not limit users from bringing in their own data or using one of the other CD-ROMs in our collection that contain GIS data (please see the list of CD-ROMs that contain GIS data for more information).
All of the data is on the C:\\ drive and in the following directories:
- "ESRI Data & Maps Most Recent"
Currently, 2004 data. There is metadata for each layer viewable with ArcCatalog as well as a HTML Help file in this directory that contains more information. The folders are: Canada, Europe, Image Data, Mexico, Street Map USA, USA, and World. Within these folders are more folders before you get to the actual data, example: Canada contains the folders "background" and "data". Data includes layers of airports, hospitals, churches, volcanos, telephone area codes, country areas and boundaries, and many more, including some that are use census information such as population and housing.
Didn't see a Help or metadata file with this one. Folders include: Canada, Elevation Data, Europe, Mexico, United States (Census & Other), United States (StreetMap Plus), United States (StreetMap), and World. This is the first dataset that included shaded reliefs. All of the above data layers are included, country areas and boundaries are from 1992.
Metadata is in a help file. This dataset was a favorite because it was easy to use being that the data was split into regions for the United States (central, east, south, and west). Then, within each region, the data was catagorized by state. This made it easy to just use the layer for one state if you wanted or for the whole United States. Folders include Canada, Elevations, Europe, Mexico, USA, and World. Delaware is further split into counties because of some data that had been downloaded to the folder at some point (there is no metadata for this). The basic information for each state included: blockgroup, population, roads, major roads, rivers, census tracts, zip codes, and census block groups, points, and tracts.
No metadata. There are an average of 11 shapefiles available for each of the folders of: Canada, Europe, Mexico, USA, and World. There's a DE folder added with data downloaded from the web during that time.
