Why does the University of Delaware Library require users to type the letters of this distorted image before submitting an online form?
Online forms are a prime target for spammers. Spammers create programs and "bots" that will scour websites searching for unprotected forms to use for malicious purposes. This form, called a CAPTCHA, ensures that a real person, not a computer, is submitting the online form. The CAPTCHA serves as a security measure, minimizing spam for the Library's staff.
